Over summer we experienced the haze from the Australian bush fires – a reminder of just how small the world can be and how delicate the environment is. Our thoughts are with those producers in Australia who have made some hard decisions over the last few days.
As the nets go on the vineyard, and the days draw out into hot, dry afternoons, we reflect on the upcoming harvest time – do we have enough buckets and snips?…and we busy ourselves in the cool winery getting last years’ vintage ready for bottling. All we need is a little – but not too much – water to help the vines carry the crop to maturity. This is a period of anticipation and nervousness..
Occasionally, to lift our furrowed brows, we get a lovely review of our wines – like this one via the wonderful Sam Kim of WineOrbit who has the following to say about our current release Pinot Noirs:
Porters Estate Pinot Noir 2016 Martinborough – 94 Points, 5 stars:
“It is wonderfully complex on the nose showing dark cherry, game, olive, toasted almond and dark mushroom characters, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that is finely textured and delightfully flowing. It is elegant and flavoursome at the same time, finishing persistent and silky.”
Porters Reserve Pinot Noir 2015 Martinborough – 96 Points, 5 stars: “A gloriously styled and expressed pinot, the immensely appealing bouquet shows dried cherry, vanilla, smoked meat, tapenade and cedar characters. It is superbly concentrated and powerful, while remaining refined and sophisticated with velvety mouthfeel and polished tannins.”
These wines are available via our shop page or at the Martinborough Wine Merchants shop in Martinborough.
Lastly – we do not have a cellar door as such, but you can visit us and taste some wine – we are part of the Martinborough Wine Walks – a guided walk experience through some of Martinboroughs fascinating and hard to find wineries.
We would love to see you here.
